Hobbies Into Cash

While looking for gifts this past holiday season, I found myself browsing Etsy.com, a site that allows individual sellers to set up a “shop” and sell unique and handmade products, such as headbands, photo frames, art, and other items. Online customers can browse the site and find these products and purchase them without needing to actually go into a store.

I really like the products on Etsy because not only are they handmade, but they are usually unique in that there’s no other product like it. Also, the sellers are usually people turning their hobbies, crafts, and talents into an income.

I imagine setting up a “shop” on sites like Etsy provides a seller many benefits. Some examples include being able to reach a broader audience, not having to pay for a physical store location, not having to develop a separate website or eCommerce site, or requiring a lot of additional startup money for things like marketing.

Although I don’t have a specific craft, hobby, or talent that could lead to selling a handmade product on the internet, I think it’s a great way to earn additional money, or even turn into a full-time career.

Have you ever considered selling a product on a site like Etsy?
