More about Tim:
I graduated in May of 2010 from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Bachelor’s of Arts in English, and am currently attempting to break into the world of writing. My ultimate goal is to be in sports journalism, but writing and reading have been passions of mine for my entire life and I am eager to begin a career in any sort of writing, editing, or journalism.

Why did you start blogging?
As I said before, I just love to write. I have written about sports (I have my own NFL blog), politics, literature, music, film, and now personal finance. Blogging is a great way to share your opinions, but more importantly a great way to learn from others as well, whether it’s through reading other blogs, doing research for your blog, or from comments people post on your blog.

What do you think is the most important personal finance issue for our generation?
There are two big issues today that line up with the state of our economy: debt and fiscal responsibility. They tend to go hand-in hand.  With saving money a more important issue than ever, people often have a hard time distinguishing between needs and wants as well as figuring out sensible ways to save money while not restricting their lifestyle unnecessarily. I have so many friends who have put themselves into debt because of poor financial planning or just not being able to put a cap on unnecessary spending, and I don’t think a lot of them realize how much debt can set you back.

What do you do in your free time?
Music has always been a big hobby of mine; I play the guitar and the saxophone. I’m an avid reader, so I like to keep around a good stack of books to read. My biggest passion (or obsession) is sports, particularly football.  I’m a huge fan of the Green Bay Packers and, of course, the Wisconsin Badgers! And of course, I love just being able to spend time with friends, whether it’s a night out or a night in.

What are your personal financial goals?
Basically, my one real big goal is to start saving already so that twenty or thirty years down the line I’ll be in a good position financially. I’ve always heard that you can never start saving too early, so I definitely want to do everything I can to make sure I’m good for the long run.

If you could travel anywhere, where would you go and why?
I have been to England and Italy, but I’d love to return to both of those places even before I go anywhere new.  Particularly Italy—I feel like I missed out on so much during my very brief time there (only four days) so I’d love to spend a much longer period of time there. I’d also love to see Australia someday for the Great Barrier Reef and the Outback.  In terms of something closer to home, I’d love to go to the Rockies in Colorado, because I love mountains but have yet to see the Rockies!
