Refund?

When I first got my car, I was in a hurry to get an insurance policy so I didn’t lose the car I wanted. I took out an insurance policy with one of the larger insurance companies out there and I ended up paying a little more. Eventually I switched my policy to something a little more economical and have been with the second company since.

Recently, I got a letter in the mail from my old insurance company. I usually receive promotional material from them asking me to come back so I thought it was something similar. I opened it out of curiosity and found a check made out to me.

According to the letter that came with it, the check is for an overpayment on my policy. The letter states that they were reviewing the policies and found that my policy was incorrectly rated and I had overpaid.

I’m pretty excited about the refund, but I’m still not sure why I was overpaying on my premium. The letter doesn’t go into any details about why the policy was incorrectly rated. I’m wondering if I should contact the company to figure out why I got the refund. Although, since I’m no longer with them, I’m not sure it matters.

Have you ever been overcharged on your insurance policy?
