Condo Lust

This past weekend Her and I were running some errands and we parked in front of a condominium building which had an open house in one unit. We’ve been to plenty of open houses in the past year, but none have really sparked any interest.
Until now.

When we walked in, we were met with SPACE. Lots of it. Most condo rehabs in Chicago are cookie-cutter and have bad layouts, but this condo had details and built-ins that make the place have a nice home feel to it.

We learned that it was a duplex, and that the first floor had a massive family room, a nice sized open kitchen next to the dining room, an office, a great patio/balcony, a powder room, and a back deck. The bottom floor had the three bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, lots of storage, and a laundry room. The place was a whopping 2650 square feet in size!

Of course, there were a few downsides. which happen to be some of the most important: price and location. It was priced at $449,000, which is a little rich for our blood. The condo was also situated in a neighborhood that has a higher crime rate than we’d feel safe in.

I guess that’s kind of a mixed blessing - we’re not ready to buy a home yet. It would have certainly broke our heart if that place was “the one”.
