Name: Beth MatsonAge: 31 State: Maryland More about Beth: I am a SAHM living in an out-lying suburb in western Maryland. I work part-time from home and routinely do volunteer work with a variety of child advocacy groups. Why did you start blogging? I originally started blogging and reading blogs on social websites as a means to keep up with my friends. What do you think is the most important personal finance issue for our generation? I believe debt and over spending are the biggest financial issues for this generation. “Keeping up with the Joneses” seems to have gotten out of hand over the years. I think it is time for young adults to start putting more emphasis on responsible spending instead of competing over showy possessions in order to set a good example for the younger generations (an older ones) and get our country’s finances back on track. What are your personal financial goals? I am constantly setting small, short-term goals, but ultimately I would like to save enough money to provide my child with a college education and have a comfortable retirement. Who do you admire the most and why? I admire my parents more than anyone else in the world. My mother has a severe traumatic brain injury and has worked very hard to cope with and overcome her disability in order to live a normal, independent life and continue to reach her goals. My father has an amazing work ethic and has spent the majority of his life working as a psych- nurse. He is a fantastic caregiver and is always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needs him. |
